About James
James was born and raised in Harrogate, Yorkshire and was educated at Ampleforth College. After leaving school he studied engineering and worked as a Work Study Engineer for several years. Finding this work and lifestyle too restrictive and craving an outlet for creativity, he decided to break away from engineering and found something more suited to his love of the outdoors.
As James had found working in an office too stifling he decided that the path to his future lay as a walk-about Performance Artist specializing as a Uni-Cyclist. Many people can recall his most famous act 'Gerald, the Unique Uni-Cycling Camel'. This flair for showing off led further on to a career as a chainsaw sculptor. His talent was soon recognized and he was invited to display his carvings at many Garden Shows and Festivals both at home and abroad. James’s work has been featured in many magazines and publications including the Oct 2005 edition of Vogue magazine. The photograph at the top of the page is James working on the Acoustic Pod Chair that he is sat in here at Henley Festival.
His interests include reading, skiing and surfing and he is a regular Severn Bore Surfer. His daughters Alice and Amber both individually held the title of youngest person to surf the Severn Bore.
James’s work is available to buy and to hire for small and large events.
